Robbins Island Renewable Energy Park

In 2023, Hansen Partnership was engaged to provide expert evidence and Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA) support for the Robbins Island Renewable Energy Park – a major renewable energy project over 20 years in the making and set to be one of the largest proposed wind energy developments in the state.

Positioned off Tasmania’s North West Coast, Robbins Island is known for its strong wind resources and distinctive natural landscape. The approved development includes up to 100 wind turbines and associated infrastructure, with the potential to supply power to around 440,000 homes each year and offset more than 8 million tonnes of carbon emissions over the next 25 years.

Hansen’s work focused on understanding how the project would be experienced within the broader landscape, from nearby townships and key viewpoints to ecologically and culturally significant areas. The assessment formed part of the broader planning and environmental approvals process, and informed the expert evidence presented in support of the project.

With planning approval now granted, the project represents a significant step foward for large-scale renewable energy in Tasmania, with careful consideration of the island’s landscape and visual context.
