Maldon Design Guidelines

History, preservation, and revision.

Maldon, a beautifully preserved mid-19th century gold mining town in Australia, was declared “historic” and worthy of protection in 1966 – the first town in the country to receive this designation.

This picturesque gem has been protected for over 50 years, and in collaboration with Mount Alexander Shire Council, we have prepared revised Design Guidelines for development and heritage conservation via Amendment C96 as an Incorporated Document.

These guidelines are a comprehensive update from the original 1970s document, which provide a clear and practical roadmap for preserving Maldon’s rich architectural history. The Design Guidelines will ensure Maldon’s valued heritage character endures for future generations to come.
