Maldon Urban Design Guidelines
History, Preservation, and Evolution.
Maldon, a mid-19th century gold mining town just over an hour and a half from Melbourne, was recognised as Australia’s first “historic” town in 1966, highlighting its national heritage significance.
To support its ongoing protection, Hansen’s Urban Design team collaborated with Mount Alexander Shire Council to update the Design Guidelines for development and heritage conservation through Amendment C96. These updated guidelines, now an Incorporated Document, replace the original 1970s framework with a more detailed and practical approach.
The revised guidelines offer clear direction for preserving Maldon’s architectural heritage, ensuring its unique character is maintained for future generations.
