In 2016, Hansen Partnership was engaged by MAB to prepare urban design and landscape guidelines for new residential development in the greenfield suburb of Mickleham.

The Merrifield Design Guidelines seek to encourage development which meets best practice in urban design and landscape architecture. They are intended to guide home owners in the design and construction of dwellings and gardens as well as maintain consistency and quality throughout Merrifield.

The guidelines seek to inform residents on the preferred siting of dwellings including orientation, address, coverage and front setbacks as well as required design initiatives including building height, room form, eaves, style, materials, colours and landscape response.

Once the guidelines were implemented in 2013, Hansen was further engaged to review and assess new dwelling applications against the guidelines. This involved the preparation of an assessment form, consistent with the requirements of the guidelines, and used as the basis for assessing individual house design applications as well as providing feedback.
