Farm Vigano Masterplan
Hansen Partnership’s Landscape Architecture and Strategic Planning teams were engaged by Working Heritage to develop a masterplan and management plan for Farm Vigano, a significant heritage site located in South Morang, approximately 30 kilometres north of Melbourne, along the Plenty River. Originally part of the larger Hawkstowe property, one of the earliest agricultural developments in the Plenty Valley region, Farm Vigano holds cultural and historical value.
The project aims to enhance the site, making it a well-utilised and valued place for both the local community and visitors from further afield. The masterplan focuses on conserving and promoting Farm Vigano’s cultural heritage, with particular emphasis on its connections to Melbourne’s Italian community.
The plan outlines a strategic vision for the site, including key management initiatives to guide future decision-making and upgrades. These initiatives include the development of a new entry precinct, clearly defined pedestrian paths and wayfinding signage, a riverside viewing deck, and a wetland upgrade at the site’s entry.
By improving the site’s utilisation, the project seeks to generate economic benefits for Working Heritage and strengthen the site’s ties with the community, all while respecting its natural and cultural significance.
