Little Lane Early Learning Centre
Little Lane Early Learning Centre in Glen Iris, Melbourne, presents a thoughtful approach to early learning in an inner-suburban context. Designed by Milton Architects, the latest early learning centre is inspired by the Guggenheim as a wonderous spiral interior that connects play with nature and a range of developmental opportunities for all kids of walking age.
The building highlights a vertical arrangement of childcare services along a tram route and close to major arterials and train services. The four-storey centre accommodates 172 children and incorporates natural materials, outdoor play spaces, and sustainable design features.
Hansen supported the project with landscape architecture, planning, and development advice, including navigating a complex approvals process and providing evidence at VCAT.
The result is a great example of how early learning facilities can work within tight, inner-suburban sites while creating calm, well-designed spaces for children, educators, and families.
The project also quietly contributes to the surrounding area, bringing life to a previously underused site and responding to the needs of a growing neighbourhood.
