Hansen Partnership began working on the Newhaven College site in 2006. New rural zones had just been gazetted in the Bass Coast Planning Scheme, resulting in a property acquired by the school on Phillip Island Road being rezoned from a Rural Zone to a Farming Zone. This rezoning prohibited a school on the site.
We were engaged to seek a planning scheme amendment to rezone the land to a rural activity zone, allowing permits to be issued for the gradual relocation of the school from its Boys Home Road site to the new site.
Following our success in securing the intial planning scheme amendment, we have been involved in securing several planning permit applications for the site, including applications for a junior school in 2009, a middle school in 2012, and a Trade Training and Administration Centre in 2014, designed by McIldowie Partners.
Working with a new architectural team at Hayball, we obtained approval for a long term masterplan for the school, which streamlined approvals and Commonwealth funding required for subsequent stages. Plans have been endorsed for Stage 1 and 2, which include the senior school, gymnasium and other sporting facilities.
Our involvement in securing a rezoning and subsequent permit applications, including the masterplan, has been increasingly beneficial for the client and has facilitated its relocation to Phillip Island Road.
Hansen will continue to assist Newhaven College in realising its vision for its new home.
