Maxi Lune
We first met Kate Reid and her team in an empty warehouse on Rose Street, Fitzroy, in 2014. Since then, she has grown her business, her reputation and has now expanded further into Melbourne’s CBD with the opening of “Maxi Lune”. We continue to assist her and her team through planning services and are very grateful for such opportunities.
The “Maxi Lune” flagship on Lonsdale Street significantly expands the brand’s CBD presence, pairing increased production capacity with an immersive customer experience centred around the making process itself. Delivered with the support of Hansen’s planning and development advisory team, it is the brand’s second venue in Melbourne’s CBD and the latest in a series of projects Hansen has delivered with Lune across Melbourne and surrounding suburbs.
Positioned within the broader West Side Place development beneath The Ritz-Carlton Melbourne, the tenancy operates under a Ministerial permit issued more than a decade ago. Before a planning pathway could be established, Hansen worked through original permit conditions, endorsed plans and historic approval documentation to determine what could be carried forward and where new approvals were required. Hansen then worked alongside Lune Croissanterie and In Addition to secure approvals for buildings, works and signage for the new tenancy.
Designed by Melbourne-based architects In Addition, the space leans into a restrained material palette of concrete, black mirrored glass and bluestone-inspired flooring, drawing cues from Melbourne’s civic and gallery spaces. The result is a flagship that feels distinctly Melbourne, ambitious in scale, highly detailed and centred around the making process itself.
