Grounded House
Located next to the Mornington Peninsula National Park and set within a coastal dune landscape, Grounded House at St Andrews Beach on the Mornington Peninsula sits within a sculpted dune landscape directly adjoining the Mornington Peninsula National Park along the Bass Strait coastline.
Hansen’s support of the project was through management and securement of planning approval for this dwelling. Its proximity to the national park and exposure to coastal conditions required careful consideration of neighbourhood character, visual impact, vegetation protection and coastal hazard risk.
Working alongside Wolveridge Architects, Hansen guided the proposal through the planning permit process. The application demonstrated that a contemporary dwelling could be accommodated in this coastal setting, by responding sensitively to the landform and environmental constraints. This necessitated careful siting within the dune profile, coordination of technical inputs, and clear justification of the built form.
Grounded House is immersed into the rugged coastal landscape of St Andrews Beach, with a form, materials and landscape treatment that respond to its setting and conditions, while still providing comfortable residential amenity.
