Bellfield Social Housing
With over 82,000 people on the public housing waitlist in Victoria, the Big Housing Build initiative plays a critical role in addressing the housing shortage. Hansen’s urban planning team assisted Launch Housing, a registered Community Housing Provider, in securing planning approval for the Bellfield development, which provides affordable housing for those in need.
Designed by ARM Architecture, the Bellfield project delivers 58 apartments across four levels, offering secure housing for low to moderate-income earners. The development includes a rooftop garden, basement parking, and is located next to the new Bellfield Community Hub and relocated Community Garden, allowing residents to experience community and connection.
The delivery of social housing at Bellfield ensures that low to moderate-income earners within the community have access to safe, secure housing. This development not only meets a critical need but also provides economic stimulus, delivering social benefits and creating local jobs.
As one of the first social housing projects approved under Clause 52.20 of Victoria’s Big Housing Build framework, Bellfield plays an important role in addressing housing demand in Melbourne. Construction was completed in late 2023, offering stability and a place to call home for its residents.
