Bellfield Community Hub

Banyule City Council sought to transform the Bellfield Community Hub into a modern, multi-purpose precinct that integrates with the surrounding Melbourne community, with a focus on sustainable design for long-term use.

Hansen Partnership, with expertise in landscape architecture, delivered a range of outdoor spaces tailored to different needs, including play areas, a community garden, and a seniors and dementia garden. Native trees and plants were selected to reflect the area’s leafy character.

Designing spaces with a strong focus of the individual users has created a number of distinct zones that are suited to the unique needs of the people who will enjoy them. Play areas for children encourage imagination, activity and sensory engagement, creating a sense of discovery and welcoming children to interact with nature to learn about the changing seasons.

The Dementia and Aged Care Garden merges socialisation with solitude, balancing the need for quite reflection with supervision, while offering a well laid-out garden that minimises the potential for disorientation and provides appropriate sensory stimulation and enjoyment.
