Vang Vieng Towns & Environs Masterplan Formally Adopted by Laos Prime Minister
Proudly setting a new benchmark for urban planning and design projects in Laos, Hansen’s Vang Vieng Town & Environs Tourism Masterplan (2025-2035) Update is the first to be ‘Nationally Endorsed’ by the country’s Prime Minister.
As the only spatial planning initiative to achieve this status, it marks a critical step in addressing the rapid growth challenges facing Vang Vieng. Positioned between the capital Vientiane and the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng is a destination in transition. As international and domestic tourism surges, so do the demands on its culture, environment and infrastructure.
Hansen and its collaborating team were engaged by MICT (Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism) Laos to update its 2010 Masterplan to respond to these ever-increasing pressures – seeking to protect the town’s unique culture, character and natural setting while guiding sustainable growth.
