VPA Activity Centre Program

Victoria, Australia’s fastest-growing state, is seeking to accommodate a significant portion of its population growth within Melbourne’s existing 120+ Activity Centres.

To kickstart the process, the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) and the Victorian Planning Authority (VPA) is examining housing potential in an initial 10 Activity Centres, as outlined in Victoria’s Housing Statement 2024-2034.

Hansen’s Urban Design team, in collaboration with the Department of Transport and Planning, Victorian Planning Authority, Plus Architecture, and McGregor Coxall, conducted a thorough investigation to assess how future planning controls prepared by the VPA align with the desired characteristics of the 10 nominated activity centres in Melbourne.

Alongside other working groups, our approach ensures that additional housing contributes to a liveable, sustainable, and green city with easy access to transportation, job opportunities, and services.
