The Arden Urban Renewal Precinct between North Melbourne and Moonee Ponds Creek is one of Melbourne’s most exciting urban renewal projects. The aspiration is for Arden to demonstrate the very best in urban renewal for the projected 15,000 residents, delivering 34,000 jobs by 2051.
It will be at the forefront of sustainable development, embracing new ways to live, learn, work and travel in an energy efficient district based around the new North Melbourne metro station.
Hansen Partnership has been collaborating with HipvHype (lead consultant) and Point Advisory in preparing the Arden Precinct Climate Response Plan for the Victorian Planning Authority (VPA).
The Climate Response plan will inform the Arden Structure Plan, to be released for community consultation in early 2020.
This important document, provided precinct specific modelling, allowing an understanding of what tools could drive the development of a zero emissions precinct, in line with the ambition to develop best practice across this important urban renewal area.
Hansen’s role included recommending and reviewing planning mechanisms where these were identified as key drivers for change. The document provides the client with a robust evidence base for implementing precinct based planning to respond to climate change.
We’re excited to continue our partnerships and collaboration with Hip v Hype, Point Advisory, the City of Melbourne, and the State Government in exploring changes and innovation to ensure our planning system is responsive to our changing climate.
