The Vang Vieng Town and Environs Masterplan is a nominee in the International Category of the 2025 AILA National Awards.

As the country’s first nationally endorsed masterplan, Hansen’s co-created update (2025-2035) provides a framework to manage change in this key visitor destination. Developed during Laos’ recovery from the global pandemic, it responds to the challenges of overtourism with strategies that strengthen local communities while protecting the town’s character and landscapes. The project also highlights the value of multidisciplinary collaboration and building capacity with national partners.
