2023 AILA Award Winners: Sapa & Surrounds’ Urban Resilience Development Project

We are incredibly honoured to share that we were awarded the AILA National Landscape Architecture Award in the International Project Category last night at the 2023 AILA Festival for the Lao Cai Province Urban Resilience Development Project, Vietnam.

Our project, backed by the World Bank and National counterparts addressed the challenges faced by ‘overtourism’ in Vietnam’s mountainous northwest, home to over 20 ethnic minority communities within a highly sensitive cultural and natural environment. The National Awards Jury’s citation states ‘this ambitious project sets a precedent by demonstrating a highly sensitive approach to cultural tourism that involves locals in a meaningful and sustainable way, while protecting historic villages and their communities in a region experiencing rapid tourism development’.
