2024 AILA VIC Award Winners: Barongarook Creek Cultural Commemoration Site

We’re delighted to share that our design for the Barongarook Creek Cultural Commemoration Site, located on Gulidjan Meerreeng (Country), part of the Maar Nation, received the 2024 AILA VIC Australia Landscape Architecture Award for Cultural Heritage last night.

Through thoughtful engagement and collaboration with the Eastern Maar Aboriginal Corporation, the representative body for the local Traditional Owners, our design addressed ecological, social, and economic constraints to restore a culturally significant space, enhancing Country’s health and well-being for past, present, and future generations.

We need to appropriately take a step back in leading the outcome and be a conduit advocating for Traditional Owner aspirations for Country and their cultural values. This project demonstrates a strong awareness of this through a methodology that shows clear respect and capacity to listen.” – AILA VIC Awards Jury

Congratulations to our landscape architecture team and everyone involved.
