Hansen are proud to share news regarding the Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens World Heritage Environs Area Strategy Plan.

New planning controls to implement the Strategy were officially gazetted on 17 April 2025 — marking a significant step in strengthening protections for this iconic site.

Since 2019, we’ve led the review of the Strategy Plan on behalf of the Executive Director Heritage Victoria, recommending policy and built form controls to better manage development within the buffer zone and safeguard the site’s Outstanding Universal Value. Key outcomes include mandatory height limits to preserve visual integrity and ensure the World Heritage listing is protected well into the future.
