691-693 Burke Road Development Secures Planning Approval
Planning approval has been secured for a new 14-storey mixed-use project in the heart of Camberwell. The development will bring 57 new homes, office space and active retail to Burke Road, adding to the activity and life of the centre.
Hansen was engaged as the Urban Designers, refining the design so it fits comfortably within its setting and contributes to a better experience at street level. One of the key challenges was working with Council’s recent Structure Plan while supporting a taller built form on this important infill site. By testing views, massing and streetscape
outcomes, we were able to demonstrate how the increased height could be accommodated without compromising the prominence of a nearby landmark or the character of the centre.
Our evidence-based approach ensured the proposal responded to its context, enhanced the public realm and avoided unacceptable amenity impacts, ultimately supporting a positive outcome through the approval process.
