Ben Dam Port Precinct Master Plan, Con Dao, Vietnam

Hansen was engaged by Ba Ria Vung Tao Province People’s Committee of Vietnam to prepare an urban design precinct master plan for the Ben Dam port area on the island of Con Dao, in the Vietnamese province of Ba Ria Vung Tau.

Con Dao is an island known for its natural beauty and rich history, originally operating as a prison island during the French colonial era. Today, Con Dao is significant for its extensive fisheries, and attracts a substantial number of Vietnamese tourists and an increasing number of foreign tourists.

The master plan prepared by Hansen addresses six precincts in the Ben Dam port area. The plan outlines land use solutions and critical pathways for economic and tourism development, environmental protection and residential amenity.

To assist local authorities in administering the plan, the project involved the preparation of a master plan and zoning plans, precinct plans, an investment prospectus, design guidelines and an urban management system.

The master plan establishes a clear vision for the future growth of Ben Dam based on extensive fieldwork, consultation with key stakeholders and a sound appreciation of the development opportunities and challenges facing the island.
