Bellfield Community Hub

Banyule City Council sought to revitalise its Bellfield Community Hub to develop a state-of-the-art, multi-purpose community precinct that integrated with the neighbourhood while boasting environmentally sustainable design principles that could house many community groups and uses for years to come.

Incorporating play spaces, a community garden, a seniors and dementia garden, and taking particular care in native tree and plant selection to reflect the leafy character of the area, Hansen Partnership delivered a number fit for purpose outdoor spaces.

Designing spaces with a strong focus of the individual users has created a number of distinct zones that are suited to the unique needs of the people who will enjoy them. Play areas for children encourage imagination, activity and sensory engagement, creating a sense of discovery and welcoming children to interact with nature to learn about the changing seasons. The Dementia and Aged Care Garden merges socialisation with solitude, balancing the need for quite reflection with supervision, while offering a well laid-out garden that minimises the potential for disorientation and provides appropriate sensory stimulation and enjoyment.
